Port Shepstone
Port Shepstone Country Club, situated on the banks of the Umzimkulu River was established in 1915.
It has 2 distinctly different nines,
the front nine being very challenging with a lot of flora and fauna and the
back
nine being far more open resembling a ‘links’ course.
This is a very hospital country club which serves as a
function venue for locals
and which is very hospitable to holiday makers. |
 |
How to get there:
Follow the Old Main Rd between Port Shepstone and
Umtentweni,
you will see the golf course (signposted) on the inland side.

Margate
In 1993 Margate Country Club underwent major
transformations to become one of the top courses on the
Golf Coast with
excellent inland views. This course is popular with families, individual golfers
and golfing groups.
In true St Andrews tradition, the par 5 ninth and eighteenth
holes share large double green.
The course is very forgiving but by no means
easy with a very deceptive short eleventh hole. |
 |
How to get there:
Take the Margate/ Seaslopes offramp, turn inland and travel
for approximately 500m, turn right to enter the club.

Southbroom
Flanked by the Indian Ocean, this course, established in
1934 is considered to be one of South Africa’s finest courses. It is extremely
popular with locals and holidaymakers alike and the par 3 fourth hole must be
one of the most spectacular holes on the coast, with incredible sea views.
Southbroom Golf Club’s clubhouse also boasts fantastic views, friendly ambience
and a top quality pro shop. |
 |
How to get there:
Take the Southbroom North turnoff, at the traffic lights
(between Marina Beach & Ramsgate). Follow the signs to the clubhouse.

San Lameer
Nestled in a natural sub-tropical paradise, this majestic
18 hole championship golf course, designed by Peter Matkovitch will ensure a
golfing experience of note. Numerous water hazards make this course challenging
in
particular the 12 hole, resembling the 12th at Augusta – it is
played across water to a narrow green.
The ninth hole par 3 is played from an
elevated tee to a green surrounded by water.
The course is frequented by
birdlife and buck and the clubhouse enjoys spectacular views of the course. |
 |
How to get there:
Turn into San Lameer Estate (between Marina Beach &
Trafalgar) and follow directions to the clubhouse.

Wild Coast Sun
Rolling fairways, big bunkers and extensive greens are a
trademark of this spectacular golf course,
set in a natural setting on an
unspoilt part of the coast.
The course, designed by golf course architect Robert
Trent Jones Jnr. is ranked in South Africa’s top ten courses.
Golf carts are
compulsory but this will not detract from the challenge and the spectacular
scenery of this course.
The par 3 thirteenth played across a water filled gorge
is one of the best short holes in the country and the
dramatic par 5 twelfth
that plays from an elevated tee to a winding fairway far below is very testing. |
 |
How to get there:
Travel South from Port Edward across the Umtamvuna River
Bridge and turn left into the Wild Coast Sun. Follow the signboards.
